Giants Lifeless Preseason Comes To An End, But The JPP Circus Is On Its Way

JPPI wrote a couple weeks ago how Big Blue didn’t exactly inspire fans for a rebound from 2014. With a field goal fest of a finale behind them, the Giants have yet to even show flashes of what some thought they’d be capable of on either side of the ball. Prince Amukamara voiced his own lack of confidence a few days ago, saying he didn’t think the team was ready for the regular season after getting thumped by the Jets. Although Eli & ODB watched last night’s game from the sideline, the rest of the squad failed to impress.
The offensive line did nothing to help the running game. Defensively they were solid & DaMonster was a force, but all his big plays did was make up for a trio of 15-yard penalties. It was like old times though seeing Stevie Brown back hauling in an INT before Moore sealed the game with a strip sack. With Beason & Ayers iffy for the opener in Dallas along with their slew of losses in the secondary, turnovers might be the only thing that can save them against Romo & Dez. That and a 200-yard game out of Beckham, who will most likely be going sans Cruz on the other side. It’s 2014 all over again.
JPP is finally gonna show up though, so there’s that. The Giants should see him next week to finally verify a finger count. Then both sides get to negotiate his unsigned $14.8 mil franchise tender based on how much time they believe he’ll miss. Ideally, JPP can return relatively soon – his camp obviously says he will. If that’s the case you gotta hope this reality check will be the motivation #90 needs to return to a consistently dominant form. There’s a potential big payday waiting on the other side of this season and narrowly avoiding ending his football career at just 26 hopefully reminds him just how lucky he is. With all the uncertainty facing the G-Men, Pierre-Paul has to come back as more than just a body on the edge playing through an injury. That is, of course, after he and his team gets through the media circus that’s been patiently waiting to pounce.
P.S. – Sayonara to Steve Weatherford, the NFL’s most jacked punter & definitely a great guy for the team, fans & community. A punter getting cut shouldn’t bum me out, but it does. Surprising considering he’s the only punter on the roster & poor special teamers may have something to do with his mediocrity, but it’s a business & swapping his $3 mil cap hit for a younger Brad Wing (acquired from the Steelers soon after the cut) making half a mil makes sense. Still, fans will miss him & his iron groin.
