Fitzpatrick Says He'd Rather Not Play Football Than Accept The Jets Latest Offer

Listen I like Fitz. I really do. So does the entire Jets team. He’ll sacrifice everything trying to win. Hes probably their best option on the field. I definitely prefer him over goddam Brian Hoyer or another round of Geno.

But this hardball negotiating from him is nuts. I mean has anyone overplayed their hand more than Jimmy Sexton? There was like a 48 hour window where Team Fitz held the power. When Brock signed with the Texans and Denver had an opening and there were still teams in the QB market and Fitz was actually one of the more attractive options. For that 2 day window, had they come up with a reasonable offer, they probably could have landed themselves a couple extra million per year. The brief period of time they held the power and the Jets were over a barrel. Now the market for Fitz is completely non-existent. Sitting there and demanding 16, fucking 18 million a year is insanity. I agree its not fair that Brock and Bradford got that money. But its like the rest of the league immediately realized those contracts were a bad idea and are certainly not going to give it to a 33 year old. Its not fair, but its reality. There is literally nobody else bidding against the Jets. They have absolutely no reason to budge. The window where they might have gotten a few extra dollars is now not only closed, but as time goes on his value is only gonna decrease. Hope hes serious about not playing because if he keeps his demands that high, thats where he’s heading.

As far as the draft tonight, I think regardless of a Fitz deal or not, they’ll have their eye on any QBs available. Unless a good offer for Mo comes through, they’ll probably just end up taking best available. Crazy that the Mo saga and the Fitz saga have carried on through to Draft Day, but here we are. Hopefully after the draft some of these puzzle pieces will be put in place. Some of this stuff can be cleared up. As much as you want to make sure you handle both situations correctly, you also want some sort of resolution before you get too close to camp and kickoff. This team has a couple big questions marks, but also too many pieces already in place too have too much uncertainty looming over this year.
