Donald Trump Will Not Be Using The @POTUS Twitter Account Once He Becomes President And I Don't Blame Him One Bit
NY Post- Donald Trump plans to keep using his personal Twitter account, the president-elect confirmed in a weekend interview, noting that he “can go bing bing bing” and make national news using his social media accounts. “@realDonaldTrump I think, I’ll keep it,” Trump told the Times of London in the interview published Monday, saying he won’t personally be taking over the @POTUS account used by the president.
“I’ve got 46 million people right now — that’s a lot, that’s really a lot — but 46 million — including Facebook, Twitter and ya know, Instagram, so when you think that you’re 46 million there, I’d rather just let that build up and just keep it @realDonaldTrump,” he added, referring to the cumulative followers he has across all social media platforms he uses.
On Twitter alone, Trump has 20 million followers. By contrast, the @POTUS account has 13.5 million. However, Trump’s Twitter account is not the most followed presidential account. Barack Obama’s personal account, @barackobama, boasts 80.6 million followers.
Of course Donald Trump isn’t going to use the @POTUS Twitter account regardless of his official job title. That was the biggest lock in the world and it’s not even just because one of his 8 billion rivals started up @POTUS. Changing your Twitter handle once you become the most powerful man in the free world is like changing your jersey number after you sign with a new team. Bad karma city. That Twitter handle is just as much a reason that Trump is President as anything else. I know it, you know it, and Almost President The Donald owns it. Tweet good, feel good, govern good. That’s just how it goes. And if the word Trump isn’t in it, Donald isn’t fucking with it. Whether it’s a social media account, a building, or a golf course.
Also lets call a spade a spade. Nobody, ESPECIALLY Donald Trump, is going to waste his time using an account with less followers than his personal account. Trump knows that his personal handle will get a healthy Presidential bump once in followers once he is swore in and confusing people with another account will only hurt that bump. And you knowwww Trump has at least 3 tweets in drafts for when he passes Obama in followers. Not sure how cryptic it will be, but he is absolutely dying to pass Barry O in followers. It’s probably more important to him than winning the election to be honest.
