Yesterday Hubbs broke down the top Jeter plays bracket and when you let a 23 year old rank Yankee history, you end up with terrible opinions like Jeter’s 3000th hit being his top play. So I now present to you, the top 5 moments of Derek Jeter’s career.

#5: 1996 ALCS Gm 1: Maier catches Jeter’s home run

It started a dynasty, and it showed us the magical moments we would be treated to over the next almost 2 decades.

#4: The Dive

The haters, and there are many, will say that Jeter didn’t need to go into the stands here, but you can’t stop in 2 steps when you’re going full speed for a ball you shouldn’t even get near. Nomar doesn’t even come close there. Maybe Mia Hamm does, but not her husband.

#3: Mr. November

New York in the fall of 2001 was a weird place. people were so sad because of 9/11 and the thought that we could be attacked. The Yankees gave the whole city something to be happy about and even though we went on to lose the series, this moment did so much for the city.

#2: The Yankees Hit King

On our we to the 27th championship in Yankees history, Jeter became the all-time hits leader in the team’s history. For 72 years it was Lou Gehrig, but not it was Derek Sanderson Jeter, a kid who wanted to grow up and be the shortstop for the Yankees, and did it. While banging a ton of models along the way.

#1: The Flip

If you say “The Flip” every baseball fan know what you’re talking about. If you Google the phrase, this is the top thing that shows up. Again this is just after 9/11 and New York city has nothing to be happy about, and now the Yankees are going to be swept in the first round of the playoffs if they can’t keep their 1-0 lead. Shane Spencer over throws 2 cutoff men and hope is lost, UNTIL A BIRACIAL ANGEL SAVED US. We’ve never seen that play before and we haven’t seen it since. I would argue that this is the greatest play in the history of the game. I’ve seen a ton of triple plays. I’ve seen robbed home runs. Hell I’ve seen centerfielders go over the shoulder. But I’ve never seen a shortstop range to the first base line to cut a guy down at home.
