NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Where were you, Derek? Derek Jeter, the iconic Yankees shortstop who retired after the 2014 season, didn’t throw out the ceremonial first pitch at Yankee Stadium on Monday because he was unavailable, Newsday reported. Former Yankees manager and Baseball Hall of Famer Joe Torre was given the honor on opening day. Andy Pettitte and Jorge Posada, both members of the Core Four along with Jeter, will have their numbers retired this season. It’s unclear whether Jeter will be in attendance on those days, the newspaper reported. Prior to last season’s home opener, Jeter and Posada threw out the ceremonial first pitches to Pettitte and legendary closer Mariano Rivera. Rivera and Pettitte retired after the 2013 season.

“Unavailable.” Cant even get a real reason? Like if he was just traveling out of the country or something it would make sense. But Jeets was probably just sitting around doing anything but Yankees baseball. I cant blame the dude. I probably wouldnt even want to see pinstripes for a few years either. Just funny that the Yankees were left in the wind with a “Nah I’m good” from Jeets. Guy is probably just like hey guys thanks for like $200 million and winning those rings were fun but I’m gonna go have sex with Hannah Davis now and want nothing to do with you.
