Derek Fisher Says The Knicks Can Win 63 Games Next Season

Complex – The 15-win 2014-2015 New York Knicks, owners of the worst record in franchise history, will be forced to make major changes coming this offseason. Per HoopsHype, four players on the roster have guaranteed contracts for next season (Carmelo Anthony, Cleanthony Early, Tim Hardaway Jr., and Jose Calderon), and with a stocked free agent class and a potential No. 1 overall draft pick to play with, Knicks VP Phil Jackson and head coach Derek Fisher will be aiming for a quick turnaround.  “We are not here trying to go from 15 to 36,” Fisher told Newsday. “That’s just not who we are. So it can turn around quickly. It will turn around quickly. But we don’t really have to put a number on it.” Wait, 36 wins for 2015-2016? That seems a bit arbitrary. Well, it’s not. Fisher’s been on his abacus shit lately: “We are 6-21 in games by six points or less this year. So we lost 21 games on two possessions,” he said. (Note: the current No. 7 and No. 8 seeds in the Eastern Conference Standings are on 36 wins for the year.)  Okay. But Fish, how are the Knicks going to improve by 48 wins to go 63-19 next season? The largest one-season turnaround in NBA season belongs the 2007-2008 Boston Celtics, who won 42 more games after acquiring Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen in the offseason. The Knicks will be fortunate to add ONE player of the caliber of 2007 Garnett and Allen this summer, as former Knicks executive Donnie Walsh indicated to the New York Post.  “We can go from 15 to 63 if we really want to. But that is up to us,” said Fisher.

The Mets can win 90! The Knicks can win 63! I just need Mikey Mac to come out and say the Jets can go 16-0 and we’ll have a trifecta of delusion here in New York City.

I want to hate Derek Fisher. I really do. Primarily because he’s pretty much the worst coach in the league and really has no idea what he’s doing and is a part of the reason the Knicks are so God awful. But when he says these things I can’t help but respect his hustle. He’s in so over his head and he knows it. He’s the ultimate snake at the moment. He knows he’s not an NBA coach, the fans know hes not an NBA coach, the players know he’s not an NBA coach, but he keeps hustling and faking his way through this job. Like these comments right here are incredible. He studied memorized some numbers for like 5 minutes and spouts off some stats to make it look like he knows what he’s talking about all while guaranteeing they are going to win an astronomical amount of games. No joke – thats exactly how I write my hockey blogs because I dont know what the fuck I’m talking about. I’m always like “JT has 18 points in his last 10 games and the team has won 9 of their last 11. If they keep this up the Isles will win 70 games and JT will win MVP.” Its complete nonsense. Reminds me of his pregame speech the time he told the team that both rims are 10 feet tall and the other team is human too so the Knicks can win.

So Derek Fisher, in a round about way, is hanging his hat on 6 point losses. Like thats something to be proud of. We lost 15 six point games so we’ll just go ahead and pencil those in as Ws next year. That gets us to 30 wins. Number 1 draft pick and a free agent and we’ll just go ahead and pencil in 33 more Ws. Bingo bango bongo we’re a 63 win team. Hilarious. I respect the Mailtime Mantra here Derek but get lawst. Knicks are battered and loyal to a fault but we’re not idiots so spare me the 63 win nonsense.
