RIP Norm Parker

The state of Iowa lost a great one today.  Former University of Iowa defensive coordinator Norm Parker has reportedly passed away.  Norm and his defenses were a big part of why the Hawkeye’s made it to so many bowls in the 2000’s and were ranked in the top 10 rushing defense multiple times.  They also led in categories like pass defense and defensive scoring.  Basically what I’m trying to say is that Norm Parker was a badass through and through.  The Hawkeyes wouldn’t have been near as successful without him.  His smash mouth defenses brought it every single game and embodied everything about Coach Parker and Iowa football.  Under Parker, Iowa consistently had one of the most feared defenses in the nation.  It was an absolute joy watching Iowa defenses wreck offenses thanks to Parker’s brilliance.  The creator of the “6 Seconds Of Hell” mantra, the Hawks went to 8 bowls games under Parker, 6 of them being January bowls.  Not to mention he sent countless Iowa players to the NFL during his tenure as defensive coordinator.  Today the world lost a great coach and a great man.  He’ll be greatly missed.  RIP Norm.
