Police Release Body Cam Footage Of Iowa Football Player Being Mistaken For A Bank Robber

USA Today- Iowa City police body camera videos released Tuesday show an encounter last week between officers looking for a bank robbery suspect and a black University of Iowa football player. The videos show officers stopping and searching UI defensive end Faith Ekakitie last Wednesday. Police had said Ekakitie matched the description of the suspect in an armed bank robbery. Ekakitie wrote about the encounter in a viral Facebook post last Wednesday describing “four gun barrels staring me in the face” and saying that “today was the first time I’ve truly feared for my life.”

Alright so this is from the story a couple days ago about Iowa defensive lineman Faith Ekakitie getting stopped by police for being a suspected bank robber in the area. He matched the description so police stopped him in the park, Was that video pretty uneventful? Yeah it was but uneventful body cam videos seem pretty eventful nowadays. Being a police officer isn’t easy. Being a black man in America isn’t easy. I don’t know much but that video seemed exactly how every situation should be handled on behalf of both parties. Everybody did the right thing. Obviously every situation is different and different things can happen in the blink of an eye. Faith did say in his Facebook post that he feared for his life (understandable when anybody near you pulls a gun) but the cops were super professional and cordial. Faith even admitted as much in that same Facebook post. And Faith was super cooperative the whole time. Everybody doing the right thing = nobody dead. Everybody doing the right thing = a man getting to continue to to play Pokemon GO in the park. And isn’t that what it’s all about?
