Tournament Recap:

I’m not even gonna sugarcoat it.  That was a boring tournament.  A real snoozefest.  Maybe it’s because we’ve already had so many great golf tournaments this early in the season and that’s why it seemed that way.  Not all of them can have crowded leaderboards on Sunday and play off holes.  But still, this one was boring.  Which makes it even more perfect that Jimmy Walker won it.  He’s the most boring, semi-well known golfer on the planet.  And that’s not to say he isn’t a good golfer.  He clearly is.  He’s a fantastic golfer as a matter of fact.  He has 5 PGA tour wins and in 2014 finished in the top 10 in 3 outta the 4 majors.  The dude is good.  But think about it.  Whenever announcers bring up the FedEx rankings, who’s on top?  Jimmy Walker.  They should just rename them the FedEx Cup rankings sponsored by Jimmy Walker.  And despite all of that, Jimmy Walker could walk up to you on the street, slap your mother across the face and you’d have no idea who he was.

Walker winning the Valero is a good story though.  He’s a Texas guy.  He lives in San Antonio so the crowd was rooting for him.  Jordan Spieth was in the final group with him (along with Billy Horschel).  Spieth is another guy from Texas so it was cool for the Texans in attendance I’m sure.  But on Sunday Spieth was in 2nd place and he was never really that close at all.  He never got within less than 4 strokes of Walker and at one point late in the day was trailing by as many as 7 strokes.  Every little run that Spieth made, Walker would answer with a clutch putt for birdie or par.  That led to this birdie putt on 16

That put Walker five strokes clear of Spieth with two holes to play and slammed the door on the tournament.  Like I said before, it wasn’t a particularly great tournament in terms of drama.  It didn’t help that scores were super high after the first day due to weather and course conditions and a bunch of players withdrew.  But hey, a win’s a win and Jimmy Walker basically dominated this tournament. It’s also worth noting that pretty much week in and week out Jordan Spieth is always in contention no matter what.  If you were to pick him to nab his first green jacket in a couple of weeks nobody would be surprised.

Shot of the Week:

This is a first.  Shot of the Week with no video!  Good times!  Aaron Baddeley with his hole-in-one that didn’t count as a hole-in-one.  Still one of the weirdest golf shots ever.  It might actually add to the lore of the shot that there isn’t any video of it.  Maybe it makes it that much more mysterious.  Or not.  Video of the shot would’ve been great.  Like I said in the blog earlier in the week, it’s 2015.  When somebody hits a shot out of bounds and then has to tee it up again and sinks that one for a “hole-in-one”, there should be video.  Oh well.  Weirdest birdie of all time for this weeks SOTW.

Fan of the Week:

Slim pickens for FOTW so we’re gonna go with this guy getting sniped by a camera as he picks a giant wedgie.  You hate to see that.  You just never know when you’re gonna be on camera.  Reminds me of the Seinfeld episode where George gets caught on camera eating ice cream at the tennis match.  People were probably texting that guy telling him they saw him on TV, he got excited only to find out the cameras caught him picking underwear out of his ass.

The Squeeze

Am I the last person to hear about this movie?  It looks awesome!  I’ll see the shit out of it.  Shooter’s back!  Does it look wildly predictable and will hit the beats that every, “I’m just a small town kid who doesn’t mingle with you out-of-town folk with bad intentions.  Oh no my family needs money?  Let’s start small then. AHHHH I’M IN OVER MY HEAD!” movie does?  Yep, don’t care.  I still wanna see it.  That putter shot is doooooooooope.  Give me 100 tries and I’d get it on the first one.

The movement of hot chicks posting their golf swings on Instagram continues!  This time it was Victoria’s Secret model Behati Prinsloo.  Impressive.

MJ, Tom Brady, Keegan Bradley and Luke Donald snap a pic

The Boston guys were all over this story yesterday but I just wanted to throw up the pic one more time.  How do you feel if you’re Luke Donald?  All day yesterday it was, “This picture of MJ, Brady and Keegan Bradley is unreal!”  All the while Donald is just kinda there.  Awesome picture.

BE SOMEBODY!

This was the best part of Sunday’s round.  Chesson Hadley from a bunker yelling at his ball to, “BE SOMEBODY!”  Which is officially what I’m going to say after every one of my golf shots/everything I do from here on out.  Golf shot?  BE SOMEBODY!  Publish a blog?  BE SOMEBODY!  First thing I say when I wake up in the morning?  BE SOMEBODY!

JOHN DALY WATCH

John Daly took another week off.  Hey, I can’t blame him.  He’s not a young, spry man anymore. You miss a bunch of cuts the start the year and you deserve a little break.  Gotta recharge the batteries and hopefully get back at it soon.

Also, if you’re within 1,000 miles of Augusta this year and you don’t go to this John Daly event at Hooters then you are  fool of the highest order.  Talk about a guy in his natural environment.
