CEDAR RAPIDS — A jury found a Cedar Rapids man guilty of operating while intoxicated Tuesday, marking his 15th conviction in Linn County. The jury only deliberated about an hour before convicting Steven L. Viers, 54, of third-offense OWI and driving while barred. He faces up to 17 years in prison. His sentencing is set for May 5. Linn County Attorney Jerry Vander Sanden said Viers has several other convictions including burglary, theft, interference with officials acts, driving while barred and driving on a suspended license in Linn County, plus an OWI conviction in Johnson County. He also has a pending third-offense OWI and driving while barred trial set for May 26 in Linn County. According to testimony this week, a police officer out on patrol about midnight April 10, 2013 said she saw Viers stop his car at the intersection of H Avenue and Shaver Road NE. He then accelerated, pulled over to the curb and parked in front of a business. She then saw Viers get out of his car and run over and hide behind a tractor-trailer, which she thought was odd behavior. When the officer approached him and asked what he was doing, Viers told her he was waiting for his son to pick him up. She said she saw him driving and then hide behind the trailer. He claimed he wasn’t driving.

Pro tip for Steven: Stop driving drunk.  Just stop.  You shouldn’t be driving drunk anyway because that’s how innocent people get hurt and/or killed and it’s a stupid idea.  But that’s just one of the reasons (the most important one but still) he should stop driving drunk.  The other reason is he clearly fucking sucks at it.  Like he’s REALLY bad at drunk driving.  He’s been caught 15 times.  15!  I can’t tell you the last time I did anything 15 times outside of masturbating.  15 times of anything is a pattern.  No matter what it is.  Do anything 15 times and that’s officially something you do.  It’s no longer something you don’t do.  You went water skiing 15 times?  You’re a water skier.  You went to 15 Cubs games?  You’re a Cubs fan.  You went to jail 15 times for drunk driving?  You’re fucking awful at drunk driving.  That’s who you are.  People don’t change and practice clearly doesn’t make perfect in this instance.  In those other cases it’s fine to be those things.  Water skiing and being a sports fans is what normal humans do.  15 DUIs isn’t.  Cut it out, man.
