CBS To Part Ways With David Feherty In What Might Be The Dumbest Move In TV History

Sporting News- CBS Sports has decided not to renew the contract of on-course reporter David Feherty, SportsBusiness Daily reported Tuesday. Feherty has been with CBS Sports for 19 years, providing live news and analysis during play and interviewing players after their rounds. He covered his last event last week at The Barclays. According to SportsBusiness Daily, the two sides could not reach an agreement on Feherty’s role on the network’s golf coverage. Feherty also hosts an interview show on the Golf Channel titled “Feherty.” The Golf Channel is owned by the NBC Sports Group division of NBCUniversal, which is a direct competitor with CBS Sports for golf coverage. Feherty played professional golf for 21 years on both the PGA and European tours, with 10 career wins.

Well that’s BULLSHIT. Shocking news.  It really is.  I’m shocked.  There’s always two sides to the story when negotiating a contract but what the hell is CBS thinking here? I need to know. Almost feels like they’re underestimating how widely loved he is.  David Feherty is, without a shadow of a doubt, the best golf analyst in the business. It’s not even close.  He’s the most knowledgeable. He’s the funniest.  He’s the m0st likable. He’s my favorite analyst in any sport period.  Some might call him controversial but that’s what you call somebody who actually says what they’re thinking as opposed to spewing bullshit like 99.9% of everybody else on TV does.  He’s refreshing on every broadcast.  If Feherty wanted a bigger role at CBS, give it to him.  If he wanted more money, have him write a number down and then double it.  Seriously.  He deserves that type of respect.  So now we’re just supposed to watch tournaments like the Masters and the PGA Championship and the countless other golf tournaments CBS covers throughout the year without Feherty? That’s fucking stupid. I’m actually angry. Feherty won’t be out of work for long.  That’s a guarantee.  He’ll either get scooped up by Fox who needs a guy like him after their HORRENDOUS golf coverage at this year’s US Open.  Or he’ll broaden his relationship at NBC where he already has a show on the NBC-owned Golf Channel called “Feherty” (which is also fantastic). Golf on TV already makes no sense in a lot of ways but David Feherty being out at CBS might make the least sense.
