Would You Trade Your Coach's Life To Win A Championship?

Let me summarize the scenario here – its a pretty simple premise:

The Jets win the Super Bowl, and Rex Ryan dies at age 55 – OR – the Jets don’t win the Super Bowl and he lives a long healthy life to the age of 90.

Would you sacrifice 40 years of another man’s life to enjoy your team winning the championship? Now obviously all the Boston assholes will talk about how they’re always winning titles without sacrificing any lives and blah blah blah. We get that. But for a Mets/Jets/Knicks/Islanders fan, this is a legitimate question. In the case of the New York Jets, I am signing for a Super Bowl and Rex Ryan’s death. Bring back Fat Rex, win a title, and he eats himself to death. I’d do that in a heartbeat. But for one main reason – I think he’d sign for that too. There’s no doubt in my mind Rex Ryan would trade in a few decades of his twilight years in exchange for a Super Bowl ring. No doubt about it. So I wouldn’t feel too bad killing him off because I know he’d make the same choice.

The other teams are harder. Terry Collins is already 64. If you told me right now Terry Collins had to drop dead but the Mets would win the 2013 World Series, I don’t think I could do that to him. I couldn’t be solely responsible. I’ll be perfectly honest, if someone else pushed the button to put that in motion, I would celebrate the shit out of that championship. I’d say a nice prayer for Terry and this championship season would be dedicated to him and I’d enjoy the fuck out of it. But I don’t think I could personally be responsible for killing an old man so I could celebrate my team winning a championship.

Of course, the flip side of that argument is anyone who coaches the New York Mets probably wants to be dead anyway. I might as well get something out of it, right?
