Should Jets Explore Revis Trade Options With 49ers?

So this is obviously the hot rumor. 49ers showing interest in Revis. It makes perfect sense on a lot of levels. The Jets are looking to rebuild, the 49ers have a massive amount of draft picks. The 49ers are in win now mode, Revis is in his prime. They’ve got the 31st and 34th pick ready to be packaged along with maybe 1 or 2 other late round picks to land the best cornerback in football. There’s a few reasons it doesn’t make any sense. 1) Revis presents cap issues for the 9ers. 2) He’s only under contract for 1 year 3) He’s coming off an injury 4) No franchise is gonna give up a boatload for a corner. Its not as much of a perfect fit as some of the talking heads make it sound like. Of course Revis would be an enormously valuable piece to a team thats already a Super Bowl contender, but there’s a lot of reasons why San Fran isn’t gonna bend over backwards to trade for him.

From a Jets point of view, if you decide trading him is the move, I think this is the type of trade you pull the trigger on. My opinion on Revis changes every day. The NFL is a place where you can rebuild quickly – if Idzik does things right, Revis could still be a part of a successful Jets future. But part of me thinks that we’re almost at the point of no return with Darrelle. The two have had multiple contract disputes in the past. The new regime has avoided him. They’re basically openly shopping him. They’ve pretty much botched everything with Revis from the jump. Maybe its time to cut ties and get back as many picks as possible to make the move worth it. San Francisco is the team that can offer that.
