The Mets trading Marlon Byrd on his own t shirt night is just about as “Mets” as it gets. Aside, of course from having franchise cornerstones get injured or having “can’t miss prospects” always completely and utterly missing. After those two things, trading someone on their own giveaway night is the Mets in a nutshell.

Back at the original trade deadline it didn’t make much sense to deal Byrd Man. He wasn’t going to bring anything significant back and if he helped the Mets piece together a decent end to the season, he would have definitely ended up being more valuable than a low level prospect. But since the deadline he’s only continued to mash. And the Mets were able to package him and Buck and ship him to Pittsburgh who’s desperate for some more offense. Its weird timing considering it looks like they just completely gave up and are now trading a guy they decided to hold on to only weeks earlier. Looks like they’re just imploding. But they brought back a 19 year old kid who repped Pittsburgh in the Futures Game this year, so all things considered I’ll take it. Marlon was a tremendous surprise this year, and if I had to guess Id say he’s definitely back on the juice. But he wasn’t a part of the long term plan and with Harvey going down, that plan just got longer. Get younger and move on.
