LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. (CBSNewYork/AP) Curtis Granderson and the New York Mets have completed a $60 million, four-year contract. The deal with the three-time All-Star outfielder is the team’s most expensive since Sandy Alderson took over as general manager. Granderson agreed to sign with the Mets on Friday, and the contract was finalized Monday during the winter meetings. The team introduced Granderson at a 12:30 p.m. press conferenceTuesday. “A lot of the people I’ve met in New York have always said that true New Yorkers are Mets fans,” Granderson said at the news conference. “So I’m excited to get a chance to see them all out there.”

Curtis Granderson…clever girl. I’m surprised more guys don’t do this kinda stuff. Not surprisingly at all that its coming from the Grandy Man. Dude is charismatic, knows how to smile and talk for the cameras, and knows exactly how to ingratiate himself to the Mets fan base. If he truly means it – fantastic. If he’s just saying this to make Mets fans happy and spite Yankees fans – just as good. Maybe even better. Because all that matters is its true. I’m not gonna sit here and talk about what a “Real New Yorker” is like I’m a Buzzfeed employee or a Thought Catalog writer. But the notion that Mets fans are the real fans of New York baseball is absolutely true. Anyone who’s suffered through thick and thin, good and bad, as long as we have is undoubtedly more dedicated to their fanhood than the Yankees fans who have been spoiled for the past 20 years. I’m not saying all Yankees fans are fairweather assholes. I’m also not saying that having the chicks and the suits jump on the bandwagon of a winning team. I would LOVE to have to deal with price gouging and seats being filled with people who couldn’t name 3 guys on the field if it mean the Mets were winning.

But I am saying that Mets fans who have suffered through the collapse of 2007 and 2008, suffered through the Madoff Scandal, suffered through the Wainwright curveball and Oliver Perez and Jason Bay and Luis Castillo and Rick Peterson’s fucking Jacket and Tony Bernazard taking his shirt off fighting minor leaguers and the Wilpons talking shit about Wright and Reyes and Lastings Milledge sucking and Omar Minaya and Jerry Manuel not being able to speak English…are more diehard than any Yankees fan is. Yankees fans are the ones who stamp their feet and scream and yell when they miss the playoffs. Call for everyone to be fired and the entire lineup to be overhauled. Mets fans are the guys who stick by their team no matter what. Who are still believing that Daniel Murphy is a stud. Sure we’ll vent and complain but we’ll never jump ship. We’re one of the most loyal fanbases in sports.

Welcome to Queens, Curtis. Just know that you are already appreciated a million times more than you ever were in the Bronx.
