Sure Kevin Durant gave the Wizards the stiff arm, but it’s not all bad news in DC. The Wizards re-signed the young shooting guard to a max deal, paying him 128 million over the next 5 years.

While that sounds like a lot (and well, because it is 128 million dollars, afterall) it isn’t as bad as it sounds. Bradley Beal has every took in the book. He’s quick, he can shoot the lights out, he’s 6’5, and he’s still just 23 years old with a veteran’s worth of experience. What his potential is though is the great unknown. He’s extremely injury prone- I’m not sure he played a full week of games at all last season. Through his first 4 NBA seasons, his games played has gone 56, 73, 63, 55. Not optimal for your young potential superstar to have brittle bones.

I’m a big Bradley Beal guy. Big. The ceiling for him is sky high. In a league that is becoming more 3ball oriented, his 40% shooting from downtown is very important. Playing along John Wall, Bradley can develop into a deadly sharpshooter in this league. He’s now getting paid to be that guy, it’s up to him to get to that level and stay healthy as well.

The Wizards still have cap space to bring in another top/mid tier free agent, as well as another role player. It ain’t all sunshine and rainbows here, but it’s not all doom and gloom either. Durant who? Bum.
