CBS - Two division rivals could be sharing a stadium soon. According to the Los Angeles Times, the San Diego Chargers and Oakland Raiders are in the beginning stages of a plan that would result in the two teams sharing a $1.7 billion stadium in Carson, Calif. The Chargers want to stay in San Diego and the Raiders want to stay in Oakland, but if the two teams can’t get a deal done in their respective cities by the end of the year, they’re going to move forward with plans to move to LA. The teams released a combined statement to the Los Angeles Times on Thursday. “We are pursuing this stadium option in Carson for one straightforward reason: If we cannot find a permanent solution in our home markets, we have no alternative but to preserve other options to guarantee the future economic viability of our franchises,” the statement said. The proposed stadium would be built on a 168-acre site in Carson. A local coalition known as “Carson2gether” plans to announce the stadium project in a news conference on Friday, according to the Times.

I love this story for 3 reasons:

1) The Raiders and Chargers sharing a stadium in LA is pretty hilarious. Both cities just fucking off their fan bases to move to a shiny new home in LA. Just shows what the NFL is capable of. If they think there is more money to be made in LA, they will go there in a heartbeat. Rivals sharing a stadium is crazy but it’s the NFL so it works. Puts all the pressure on San Diego an Oakland to figure it out, the Chargers and Raiders owners have no problems with just up and moving.

2) What happens to the Rams now?? All signs were pointing to the Rams moving to LA. Their owner already bought land out there for his new stadium. And now both the Chargers and the Raiders want to move to LA too? Can LA go from having zero teams to 3 teams that quick? Kroenke is going to be so fucking mad. He wants to get the fuck out of St. Louis in the worst way, but now it looks like everyone else is taking his fan base. I am insanely interested on what happens to the Rams if the Raiders and Chargers decide to go ahead and make this move.

3) I simply love stadium porn. Artists renderings of new stadiums are always so cool. Whenever I see stadium designs I’m always blown away. This stadium look cool as shit. It might not have wings like the Kroenke design

But the open air design is still cool as shit.
