Toothpaste? Ain’t nobody got time for that.

NME - Lorde collected the MTV Video Music Award for Best Rock Video last night (August 24), becoming the first female artist ever to win in the category. The 17-year-old scooped the gong for ‘Royals’ at the Los Angeles award ceremony, beating out Arctic Monkeys, The Black Keys, Linkin Park and Imagine Dragons in the process.

There’s been some Internet buzz today about Lorde winning “Best Rock Video” at the VMAs last night. I joked about it on the Twitter, saying if Lorde can win best rock video, I can win a Pulitzer. And I stand by that. If we can just start calling Voldermort’s song “Royals” rock, we can call an MFK hard hitting journalism. But I can’t figure out if it even matters. MTV is irrelevant, we all know this. Music videos are shown on YouTube, not MTV. But I still say it matters, because when we start saying one award doesn’t matter, we either have to give them to everyone, or not give them out at all. If Lorde gets best rock video just stop giving out awards because now they have no value. It’s like when Big Bang Theory wins an award for comedy over Curb or Arrested Development, that award becomes irrelevant. The more I type in this blog, the more I have decided now that no awards from televised award shows matter. Because awards are decided through time. It took Martin Scorsese something like a million nominations to win best director. “Shakespeare In Love” beat “Saving Private Ryan” for best picture in 1998. None of that matters because we all humans with brains know Scorsese is the GOAT and none of us has ever seen Shakespeare In Love. But I digress. The Imagine Dragons being nominated for best rock anything instead of pop pushes the line enough. Calling that weird ghost’s song a rock song kinda just shits on the entire music industry, shits on my face, and makes anyone who won a Moon Man last night question if they really deserved it.

PS: Her and Taylor are FOR SURE lesbians. Gun to my head, they scissor.
