Redskins - The safety position for the Washington Redskins continues its offseason overhaul. The Redskins on Friday traded a 2016 sixth-round pick to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for veteran safety Dashon Goldson, according to NFL.com’s Albert Breer. Washington also reportedly acquired a2016 seventh-round pick in the deal. Goldson, 30, is a two-time Pro Bowl selection (2011, 2012), and in 2012 was named a first-team All-Pro with the San Francisco 49ers, when he recorded 69 tackles, 11 passes defensed, three interceptions, two fumble recoveries and one forced fumble. Goldson’s acquisition adds another veteran presence to the safety position for the Redskins, which was in need of an overhaul this offseason after the loss of both its starters in Ryan Clark (retirement) andBrandon Meriweather (unrestricted free agent). The Redskins on March 16 signed free agent safety Jeron Johnson, who spent the previous four seasons – and won a Super Bowl title – with the Seattle Seahawks, learning behind Pro Bowlers Kam Chancellor and Earl Thomas.

Great move. Goldson had fallen out of favor in Tampa and the Skins swooped right in and traded a 6th round pick for him. Much better value to get a former All-Pro safety with your 6th round pick. I love what the Skins are doing this offseason. They previously bolstered the secondary by signing Chris Culliver. Two great upgrades to places the Skins were lacking depth. Add in that they signed Pot Roast Knighton and Stephen Paea for the Dline and the Skins rebuild is going just great. Cheap but dependable guys to sill in holes while they develop young guys and build through the draft.
