The Sun Ravens starting cornerback Jimmy Smith was arrested and charged with misdemeanor disorderly conduct Saturday night after an incident at The Greene Turtle in Towson, according to Baltimore County police. Police said Smith, 25, was cited for failure to obey a lawful order of a police officer. Officers went to The Greene Turtle on York Road after the general manager reported that there was an unconscious woman in a bathroom at the Towson restaurant and bar. Police said that the NFL player was assisting her when she vomited while leaning over a sink.  Officers later found what they suspected was a small bag of cocaine in the woman’s purse, according to the police report.  Police said that after medics arrived, officers repeatedly asked Smith to step aside and he refused to comply and said several times that he was helping the woman. According to the police report, Smith was told that because he wasn’t related to the woman and wasn’t helping her that he needed to leave so that medical personnel could attend to her and Smith replied: “I am helping her.” According to the police report, Smith was asked three times by an officer to leave the restroom before being ushered out to the hallway. Smith allegedly cursed at the arresting officer and asked him “What the [expletive] are you gonna do?” When told again to leave, Smith replied: [Expletive] you. What the [expletive] are you gonna do?” Smith was then placed in handcuffs. While at the Towson precinct, according to the police report, Smith told the officer: “The only reason you arrested me is so you could get on the news.” According to the police report, the officer informed Smith that he wasn’t aware of who he was and that wouldn’t have made a difference in the outcome of the incident. Smith then said, according to the report, “You will see this [Sunday] on ESPN.” After Smith was arrested, Baltimore County police said, he was cooperative with officers at the precinct.

Grand news to wake up to this Sunday morning. Just when I thought we were ready to move onto football, a 5th Raven gets arrested this offseason. Yeah, it’s a pretty minor offense and it could happen to anyone (yeah, who hasn’t helped their date with a little coke OD in the bathroom at the Turtle?), but this one may be the most concerning of any arrest for the future of Baltimore football. Yeah, Rice’s arrest was shocking and more egregious, but the Ravens aren’t really depending on him long-term. Jimmy Smith is one of the best young corners in the league. The front office is planning on giving him a long-term extension, but this is a potential red-flag. We knew there were some character issues when we drafted him, and it had looked like they had been put to rest. Maybe not so much. On the surface a disorderly conduct misdemeanor really isn’t all that bad. But the circumstances surrounding the arrest don’t bode well for his image, nor the image of the Baltimore Ravens. Cocaine and self-entitled comments to police aren’t helping anyone. The boys have gotta clean it up, and clean it up fast. It’s going to take a long while to repair this criminal reputation they’ve built up, and this one step forward, two steps back bullshit certainly isn’t helping. Need training camp in the worst way.
