My Ode To Superbad On Its 10th Anniversary

Superbad. The #25 greatest comedy ever made according to a reader’s poll conducted by Rolling Stone but #1 in our hearts. All you have to do is look at its resumé. $121 million domestic box office gross for a simple movie that Seth Rogen & Evan Goldberg had been writing since their days as tykes in the mean streets of Vancouver. It’s Jonah Hill’s first major role. Michael Cera straight out of Arrested Development. Bill Hader & Seth Rogen are the long dick of the law. It’s the movie that led to McLovin gracing us with his presence in hits like Role Models, Kick Ass 1 & 2, and Neighbors 1 & 2. It’s easily one of the funniest movies ever made.

Superbad is the only movie I’ve ever bought a poster of. The soundtrack is fire too. Too Hot To Stop (Part 1) by the Bar-Kays, Echoes by the Rapture, Bustin’ Out, and These Eyes aren’t on my main Spotify playlist for nothing. Only my favorite things make the cut on my laptop stickers. See below.

My father took me to the theater to see Superbad on a nice Summer day 10 years ago. Bringing your 12-year-old son to a movie that says fuck 186 throughout its duration might not win you any #1 Dad awards, but that’s neither here nor there. The whole theater probably assumed we would hit a bottle of Jack on the drive home, maybe even rob a bank together. Some real father/son-type activities. Obviously, I’m happy he took me. It helped make me the man I am today.

I will leave you all with these. Catch a glimpse of ‘em. Happy Superbad day!
