Max Scherzer Gave Up a Double Last Night In The 6th Inning, Ending His Streak Of 16.1 Straight Innings Without Giving Up A Hit

Last night after the 6-pitch first inning, I was like “is he really going to do this again?” And yep, he was doing it again. Took a perfect game into the 6th, just toying with the Phillies the whole way. And the crazy thing is you could tell his stuff was not of the same caliber as his previous two games. But even his B+ stuff is way better than anyone else. To say what he’s doing is truly remarkable is an understatement. Scherzer has taken a perfect game into the 6th inning in 3 straight starts now. He went 1-hitter, no-hitter, perfect game through 5.1 innings. The dominance he’s showing is incomparable. 130 Ks in 110 innings, .79 WHIP, and a 1.79 ERA. The “he’s playing chess when everyone else is playing checkers” analogy has never been more true than with how Scherzer is dominating the opposition this year. And to think the Nats underpaid for him in free agency.
