Maryland - In case you missed it earlier today, prized 2016 wide receiver Trevon Diggs Tweeted a photoshop — presumably sent to him by Maryland’s coaching staff — picturing a mock-up of an imaginary ESPN 30 for 30 film titled, “The Movement. #DMVtoUMD.” It features a player with Diggs’ name on the back of his Maryland jersey, and another with “Haskins” on the back of his. The Terps, who’ve long been challenged to sign elite local prospects, have been pushing for local players to take pride in suiting up for their home-state school for some time, including branding the program and its official Website with the ‘Maryland Pride’ moniker. But the #DMVtoUMD campaign seems to be picking up some steam as well.

For those who aren’t Twitter-holics: Diggs, the younger brother of Stefon Diggs and the No. 4 athlete in 247Sports’ Class of 2016 rankings, posted the photo along with the comment “We COULD make history.” Bullis (Md.) quarterback Dwayne Haskins, the third-rated pro style quarterback in the junior class, replied, “history in the making !” And finally, 2015 commitment Adam McLean, a self-anointed recruiting ace who recently detailed his plans to draw top recruits to Maryland, replied with, “mobody thought it could happen.” Haskins (highlight video below) also Tweeted this:

Of course, it feels a bit silly dissecting social media conversations, and it could be little more than a few high school football players soaking in all the love, but it does seem Randy Edsall’s program has some local momentum in its favor. There’s been growing buzz in Maryland’s favor on Haskins, a blue-chip passer with potential to play immediately in two years, is arguably Maryland’s most important recruit regardless of class or position; the Terps are in dire need of a talent infusion at quarterback.

This is what I’ve been talking about. Turning Maryland into Oregon-East. Big school, tons of support from a huge brand, flashy uniforms, the whole shebang. The football program is taking the next step in all facets, and now they are taking it in recruiting. No longer will the best DMV players go out of state. They can stay at home and be local legends. Bring Maryland to glory. We have the most pride of any state, and now it’s time for the football program to mirror that. Yea, there are idiots who don’t realize that it takes time to build a program. There are people who don’t realize Nebraska was once the go-to school for college football and now it’s basically an afterthought. There are people who don’t think about the 100 years before the mid 90’s/early 2000’s when Oregon was a shitty program with no history.

Maryland is truly building something special here. The local kids are buying in. They don’t want to go play for washed up VTech. Don’t want to go North and play for the rapies. They want to stay at home and bring the Terps to prominence. Stay woke, The Movement is happening.
