Maryland Baseball Destroyed South Carolina to Earn Their First Ever Bid To Super Regionals
Huge weekend for Maryland as they earned their first ever bid to Super Regionals. Playoff baseball is all about getting hot at the right time, and the Terps have been scorching hot since the beginning of May. A month ago they were a bubble team who hadn’t made the NCAA’s since 1971. 14 wins and only 2 losses later, they’ve found themselves with a spot in what amounts to the Sweet 16.
And rightfully so. Any time you can hold the opposition to 7 runs across 3 games, you deserve to win. They have the formula down to a science. Pitching, defense, and timely hitting. Maryland has 3 great starting pitchers that keep them in every game they play, a rock solid bullpen, and a lineup that gets on base and manufactures runs. Not to mention they went into South Carolina’s barn, where the Gamecocks had won 28 straight, and took it to them twice in a row. Just right behind the shed in brutal fashion. You don’t see South Carolina baseball fans leaving in the 8th inning of an elimination game ever. And yet that was the scene last night.
The Terps now head down to UVA for a best-of-three next weekend in hopes of earning a College World Series bid. Bizarro world stuff, but I’ll be there to watch them stick it to the ACC one more time. The Terps faithful should follow suit. Raise high the black and gold. Fuck UVA!
