Manny Machado Fined and Suspended 5 Games For That Whole Bat Throwing Thing

Sun – Orioles third baseman Manny Machado received a five-game suspension and an undisclosed fine for Sunday’s bat-throwing incident, Major League Baseball announced Tuesday afternoon. Oakland Athletics left-hander Fernando Abad, who threw two inside pitches to Machado before Machado flung his bat down the third-base line, will only receive a fine. After apologizing for the incident, Machado told reporters he would wait for any punishment from baseball before deciding whether he’d appeal, but an appeal is likely.

No real surprise here, Orioles third baseman Manny Machado has been fined and suspended for 5 games for his actions this weekend against the A’s when he threw two temper tantrums.

Machado plans to appeal his suspension and maybe they’ll take a game off or something, but it’s obviously a warranted suspension. It was pretty clear he overreacted on Friday night and then again on Sunday when he threw his bat. Can’t act like a child out on the field and not expect to get some sort of punishment. He may just be appealing so he can play during this home stand.

Machado did issue an apology yesterday to the Athletics, the fans, the Orioles, and both coaching staffs. It was disgusting to see what Manny did this weekend, but at least he finally came out and apologized. Hopefully this teaches him a lesson and he can get back to smashing doubles and playing outstanding defense.
