KIRO – New Mexico resident John Wines thought he had hit it big when the scratch-off lottery ticket he bought at a Shell gas station in Roswell turned up five winning numbers adding up to more than $500,000 in prizes. But when Wines returned to station to collect, he was told the ticket was a “misprint” and would not be paid. (Source: KOB.com) Really? A misprint? Wines said he contacted the New Mexico Lottery and they stuck to the misprint story in their response: “We did find a flaw in that particular pack of tickets and it’s been reported to our printer. Thanks for bringing this to our attention. I did complete a reconstruction of your ticket and it was not a winner.”” Wines said he recently retired and would have liked the $500,000, and the lottery’s offer of $100 in lottery tickets to make up for their error doesn’t seem fair since he “bought the ticket in good faith.”

Yo. That shit ain’t cool. I’m ready to go to war for this guy. That is the worst thing that can ever happen to a person. You don’t dangle the $500,000 carrot in front of a man’s nose and never let him eat it. I don’t care if the tickets were “misprinted”. That’s such a bullshit excuse. Because once they’re printed, they’re printed. A print is a print is a print. I don’t know how else to put it. We all agree here- If the lottery didn’t want the guy to win $500,000, they shouldn’t have sold him a ticket that said he won $500,000. I feel awful for this guy. He had $500,00 cash pulled from his hands. All his dreams of buying a boat and sailing to Greece, poof! Gone! I hope his old lady at least gave him a couple good “we’re rich now!” blowies in that time between winning and having the money taken away. The only good thing to come from this is every time you or I fuck up for now on though, misprint city, population us.
