Last Night's South Park About Yelp Reviewers Wasn't The Best Episode, But It Featured One Of Their Best Songs Ever, "Boogers And Cum"

Last night’s South Park “You’re Not Yelping” wasn’t my favorite episode of all time, that’s for sure. While still better than most everything else on TV, the episode sort of fell flat for me. Where in previous years Cartman would have gone way over the top, it just seemed a bit too tame. People have been saying that about all the episodes this season, but I have disagreed because the jokes and the satire have been so good that there hasn’t been the need for Cartman being Hitler. But last night, Cartman’s big joke was having David (pronounced Da-vee) say that he rides his little bicicleta to school. That was it. While funny, that wasn’t the Cartman we are used to. Cartman made Scott Tennorman eat his own parents…there just should have been a bit more. Perhaps Cartman is growing up and maturing with the rest of South Park? There is a Whole Foods there now after all.

While the episode (on a South Park scale) was probably about a 6/10, the idea of it was great as always. Sure, Yelp is kind of an old idea, but I was watching it from the point of view that they weren’t just talking about Yelp reviewers, but people on the Internet as a whole. How very self-important anyone with an anonymous screen name is. Shit, some our own comment section, who as a whole comprise .01% of our total readership, believe that they keep Barstool afloat. That without them, this multi-million dollar site would simply cease to exist. The episode would have been better if instead of Yelp, they tackled the entire “I’m on the Internet therefor I have to chime in about everything” way of thinking. For example how you can @ a woman on Twitter anonymously and call her a fat cunt without repercussions. They chose to focus on Yelp, where Yelp reviewers think it would be a disservice to the world if we didn’t get that review of Applebees.

So while the episode wasn’t the best, it will always be remembered for the closing song, “Boogers and Cum”. The song kind of explains itself, no real intro needed. 6/10 episode, 9/10 song.
