Harper Hit Another And Max Scherzer Continues To Dominate As The Nats Won Their 9th Straight Series

Make that 9 straight series wins by the Nats and 21-6 since April 28th. Unreal baseball they’ve been playing, led by Bryce and his 18 HRs and Max Scherzer and his 1.51 ERA. I can sit here and write about how Bryce leads the NL in pretty much every major statistical category (he’s only a measly 4th in average though, smh), but I would instead talk about how great Max Scherzer is. When they signed him to that massive 200 million dollar deal, the big question was “can it possibly be worth it?” And looks like the answer is yes, yes it is.

Watching Scherzer pitch this season has been like watching a whole different sport almost. He’s so far in the batters’ heads, they have no idea what to do about him. Last night when he was zoned in it was an incredible display of pitching. 4 of his 6 starts this month he’s had 10ks or more, and 5 out of 6 starts he’s given up 1 ER or fewer.

And fine, if we have to talk about Bryce and his 18 HRs, we can. He’s hitting a HR every 8 or so ABs this month. He’s the first player with 13 HRs in 22 games since Arod in 2003. He hit 13 homers last year in 395 plate appearances and has 13 this month in 95 at bats. And it’s not just hitting for power. He’s still hitting .331, getting on base by leading the league in walks, and has a 1.215 OPS for the season. I’m not sure what fancy stat talks about how base runners don’t go 1st to 3rd on him when it’s hit his way because of his cannon arm, but whatever stat that is, he has a lot of it.

We can also talk about Storen leading the league in saves, the bullpen settling down and coming into it’s own, Denard Span being incredible both in the field and at the dish, and much, much more, but no need right now. Nats just keep on rolling, and it’s great to watch.
