Donald Trump Comes Out In Support of The Name "Redskins"

NYT - After months of name-calling, Jeb Bush and Donald J. Trump have finally found a name that they can agree on: the Washington Redskins.

Last week, Mr. Bush weighed in on the long-running debate about whether the football team’s name should be changed out of respect for Native Americans. Speaking on SiriusXM’s POTUS channel, Mr. Bush said the Redskins should be left alone, saying “I don’t find it offensive.”

Native American groups were angered, and Democrats called it another example of Mr. Bush’s insensitivity. But in this case, Mr. Trump says he thinks that Mr. Bush is right.

“Honestly, I don’t think they should change the name, unless the owner wanted to,” Mr. Trump said in an interview.

Mr. Trump. who has made bluntness a hallmark of his presidential bid, said that the Redskins moniker was yet another issue of unnecessary political correctness. The name has been that way for years, he said, and not everyone considers it to be a slur.

“I know Indians that are extremely proud of that name,” he said. “They think it’s a positive.”

Shocking development. Donald Trump is a-ok with the name Redskins, as if there was ever a doubt. Kind of disappointed, thought he might throw us a curveball. A billionaire being on the side of “keep the name” is so 2000 and late. Mix it up for me, Trumpster. But thankfully, Trump didn’t just stop at saying Dan Snyder should be able to decide the name, which I think is a fair stance to have on it, no matter what side of the argument you fall on. He bought the team, owns the team, can do what he wants with the team. But just keep in mind while there are some Native Americans Redskins that think the name is ok, I’m not sure it’s up to rich, white billionaires to make that decision on if it’s a positive or not.

PS: Why did Jeb Bush come out on the side of the name? Well because Dan Snyder donated 100k to his Super PAC, of course. Think these guys actually care one way or another? Politics, baby!
