Brendon Ayanbadejo Opens His Mouth, Says One Of His Teammates Smoked Weed During Super Bowl Week

The Sun – Without offering specific details, former Ravens and Chicago Bears linebacker and special-teams ace Brendon Ayanbadejo said teammates were smoking marijuana in the days leading up to one of the two Super Bowls he played in. Ayanbadejo played for the Ravens during the 2012 season as they won Super Bowl XLVII, a win over the San Francisco 49ers, and for the Bears in their loss to the Indianapolis Colts in Super Bowl XLI. “I’m not going to say which Super Bowl it was but I just remember getting off the elevator one night — it was early on in the week, just to start the week off — and all of the sudden I just got hit over the head with fumes of marijuana on the entire floor of the hotel that the team was staying on,” Ayanbadejo said. “I could just imagine there were a few young guys just toking it up in more than one room. I was like, ‘Man this is the week of the Super Bowl and you’re just going in?’ “So then I was looking around, and I’m like ‘OK, where is the security?’ I looked and for some reason we didn’t have regular police — coach was smart enough to have rent-a-cops on our floor instead of regular police like we usually do. I scratched my head but I was like, ‘OK, uh, that’s a good thing ’cause . . .’ that’s it. That’s all I’ve got to say about that.

“That’s all I’ve got to say about that.” Cool story Forrest. Said more than enough. I really don’t understand why he felt the need to discuss any of this. It breaks locker room code. He didn’t specify whether it was the Bears or the Ravens, and I doubt it was a John Harbaugh coached team, but it doesn’t matter, you just don’t say that type of shit.

I appreciate what the guy did as a football player. Best special teams coverage guy in football for a few years, and he helped bring Baltimore its third Super Bowl. But selling out your teammates is a dick move, and when you leave it open-ended the way he did, it tarnishes both team’s legacies. I’m not sure if he’s salty that the Ravens cut him last spring, or if he’s just a certifiable asshole. But as somebody who wasn’t afraid to voice opinions during his playing days, it’s clear that he missed the microphone and jumped at an opportunity to get back in the headlines. Made it all about himself, as usual. Good luck in free agency nark.
