Bird Watching - O's Inch Closer To Division Title, Welcome Yanks To Town

Standings

All Orioles fans were anticipating a pennant race when the season started, too bad they likely won’t get one, for good reason though. This race is pretty much over. They’ve been in first place since July 6th and haven’t looked back. It’s been a while since the Orioles could afford to lose a series and not have to worry about anyone catching them, I could get used to this.

The second place Blue Jays are 10 games back and the Yanks sit at 10.5 behind. Both teams refuse to pack it up for the year, but time is running out. The magic number is at 8 and shrinking fast. All is good in Birdland.

 Os Sox

Sweeeeep Caroline

Way to show up Boston! Orioles came into Camden North and continued their winning ways against the Sox. Sweeping the series not only meant their third consecutive season series win over Boston, it brought their record to 34-19 over the Red Sox since 2012. Not sure how this team managed to sandwich a World Series title in between two last place finishes because they suck and I love it.

Game two saw another fantastic start from Miguel Gonzalez who has been red-hot lately. His last 5 starts he’s given up only 4 ER in 34 and 2/3 innings, STUD alert. Game two was highlighted by Adam Jones’ absolute moon shot. Not sure if it’s landed yet. One of the newest O’s also contributed to the beating, Alejandro De Aza hit his first two homers of his Oriole career in the 4-0 win. The third game was over before the seventh inning stretch, Joe Saunders came in late and gave up some runs, but the game was already in hand, 10-6 O’s win and complete the sweep.

Upcoming Playoff Push

Woah…

Alright heres the deal- sweep the Yanks and they are eliminated, even if they’ve really been out since the second Jeter decided to make this season all about himself anyway. And what better way to send off Jeter than eliminating the Yankees on Sunday Night Baseball on ESPN? Couldn’t ask for anything better. Jeter’s last game at Camden, I’m sure his gift will be blue crabs, or The Wire DVD sets, whatever. I’ll bet $20 bucks his last at bat at Camden is a GIDP or a flare to second. Adios Captain.

Toronto comes into town next and this could be the series we’ve all been waiting for. If the O’s sweep the Yanks and the Rays sweep Toronto, the Orioles can wrap this puppy up with a win on Monday- unlikely but hey it could happen. Taking two of three from the Jays would probably clinch the division depending on what they do against the Yanks, so let’s do that shall we? Join me at the yard Tuesday or Wednesday, if we’re lucky we can celebrate this title. Bring your ski goggles, champagne showers for everyone.

Nick Playoffs

I NEED to see this team celebrate the division title at home, they deserve it. Markakis deserves it, Buck deserves it, Steve Pearce and Caleb Joseph deserve it. If you have a chance to get to the park this week do it. You can bet your sweet ass I’ll be there when they clinch. While clinching the east will be nice, there are still bigger things to accomplish, this is a step in the right direction towards those bigger things. Buckle up baby! Playoffs are near!
