A Study Shows Virginia Is The Most Patriotic State In The Country

WTOP - The commonwealth is the country’s most patriotic state, according to WalletHub, a financial resource company. The study looked at voting habits, military engagement and civic education to determine its rankings.  Washington, Colorado, Idaho and Alaska round out the top five, the data show. “Good patriots are engaged citizens who know their country’s history, follow its involvement in current events, and devote time and energy to its success,” Lydia Moland, an associate professor of philosophy at Colby College who participated in the study, said in a news release. Virginia ranks third in military engagement and fifth in civic engagement, according to the WalletHub analysis. The commonwealth has the fourth most veterans per capita. Conversely, Rhode Island, New Jersey and New York ranked last in overall patriotism. New York, in particular, had a low rate of veterans per capita, and a low percentage of residents who voted in the recent presidential election. To get those numbers up, says analyst Peter Levine, “schools should teach young people to understand and value the American republic in civics and social studies class.”

Well hot damn, Virginia does it again. Most patriotic state in the union. Not a huge shock seeing how the country has always revolved around Virginia in one way or another, starting with the first settlement at Jamestown. But it’s as if Virginia is going wire to wire with it. It’s quite impressive. The list itself is pretty wild after the obvious number 1. Washington state at 2? Idaho is patriotic at 4? I can’t tell you one thing about Idaho but apparently they can sing the president’s song forwards and backwards. Alaska I guess they have nothing else to do there besides sing the National Anthem over and over again, and same with Maine. My home state Maryland sneaking in at 18, a bit low, never good to get beaten out by Montana or Florida in anything. Maryland needs to get some hitch in their Patriotic giddy up for next year’s rankings. Top 10 or bust. And maybe another Barstool City can sneak into the top 20? I mean come on. New York dead last? Pennsylvania nowhere to be found. Not a great look, pick it up schlubs.
