"What's a Nickel defense?" - Brett Favre

The word “legend” gets thrown around a lot these days. Sometimes it warranted, many a time it’s not. When describing Brett Favre, it’s hard to find another word that works as well. The gun slinger from Mississippi who amassed an incredible 71,838 passing yards in the NFL with over 500 touchdown passes is a walking, talking, ball throwing legend. His “regular dude” ora touched fans from all over the country not just folks in beautiful Green Bay, Wisconsin. The end of his career obviously wasn’t the greatest, but it’s all a part of the appeal that is Favre. A guy who loved football so much he didn’t want to retire. Played for a few different teams on the way out, sent a regrettable text, threw some interceptions, but at the end of the day an incredibly talented dude that you’d love to drink a beer with. Through my time in the NFL, I’ve met a couple dozen dudes who got a chance to be teammates with Brett. Not one of them had anything negative to say about him. That’s incredibly rare in a world that has so many egos that feelings are to bound get hurt about something. Today a video popped up in my feed that made me a fan of number 4 even more than I could imagine.

“Who gives a shit?” Was his response in a team meeting when he was an NFL QB who had no idea about any coverages and told that “Nickel” means a slower LB was taken out and a much faster DB was put in his spot to drop into coverage in an obvious passing situation. The guy didn’t give a damn. Let’s play ball, fuck all the bullshit. I love that. Cheers Brett, I wish I could’ve showered with you brother. That carefree attitude is contagious, its obvious why his teammates loved going to work with him.
