This is one of those retirements that isn’t shocking because Tim Duncan is 40 years old and obviously well past any sort of prime, but it is shocking because I can’t remember the NBA without Tim Duncan in it. 19 years. For the majority of my life Tim Duncan has been a San Antonio Spur (briefly on the Magic that one summer they were gonna get T-Mac, Grant Hill, and Duncan). Such an unbelievable career. The greatest power forward of all time and a top 10 player at any position. I’m sure people will debate that today but that feels about right from where I’m standing. The model of consistency year in and year out. 15 All Star games, made the playoffs 19 out of his 19 seasons, 5 NBA Championships. Tim Duncan made shooting the ball off the backboard cool, well maybe not cool, but he made it a thing. Mr. Fundamental. Respect to a legend, quite the career.

Oh and of course, the fashion. No one did fashion like Tim Duncan. Tim Duncan never saw a Costco XXXL shirt he didn’t love

By the way, in 2016 when announcing your retirement a year before you actually retire is a thing, of course Tim Duncan walks away on a random July day with little fanfare. Perfect ending to a perfect career.
