Providence Coach Ed Cooley Was Called For The Single Worst Technical I Have Ever Seen And I'm Still Angry About It

If you missed the late night game or were too drunk to remember it, this happened. A technical foul on Providence, down 8 with 4 minutes left, for absolutely nothing. Ed Cooley simply knocking over a chair to fire up his team was somehow offensive enough for the ref to give Dayton 2 shots and the ball. Now I know Dayton was winning anyway, they were the far better team last night, but that’s not the point. The point is that shit like this drives me NUTS. This ref should be fired, never allowed to ref another game. Why? Because he clearly cares more about himself than the game. He wants people to know he’s in charge, that he’s the big swinging dick. He thinks people paid for tickets or turned on the TV to watch him ref. There is just no reason to call this. None. It’s not like Ed Cooley threw a chair at the ref. The NCAA selection committee gave Dayton 2 home games in a row (this one was in Columbus) and Ed Cooley had to take timeouts on the floor so his team could hear, what he does in that huddle is none of the ref’s business. And this actually goes for the entire tournament. The officiating has been bad throughout, no consistency whatsoever. Maybe I’m simplifying but I truly don’t think it’s that hard, a ref should never be the story, stay out of the way, lean towards letting these guys play, and let us forget that you exist. This type of shit is the exact opposite and I’m not joking when I say I want this ref fired. I don’t even have a dog in this fight but I want him gone purely on principle.
