Hockey Round UP: The Best of Week 1

Brent Burns

Hockey is officially back in season which means so is the Hockey Round Up. This blog worked pretty well last year and was at it’s best when you guys sent in tips since I obviously can’t watch every game. Send tips and links to either barstoolchief@gmail.com or tweet them to me. NHL, College, Junior, HS. Whatever you got that’s blog worthy, send it in.

This the year of the rookie in the NHL and they dominated highlight reels in the first week

Dylan Larkin’s first snipe against Toronto

Looks like Detroit found another all-star type player. Weird.

And, like the Wings, the Blackhawks keep churning out great young players. Artie Panarin looks like the real deal. He and Kane might be soulmates.

That whole shift was absurd. Too smart, too skilled, too good. Bye Isles. Artie Panera is gonna grab some Calder votes

Jack. Eichel.

What a sequence by Eichel from start to finish. Saw the far teammate, tried to slip it back door, but Moulson got in the way. Then Eichel out-races Jenner for the puck, bodies him, uses wheels to beat him off the circle and finishes it with a first rate cheddar bomb. That’s winning hockey. That kid might be good.

Zero goals for McDavid so far. Might be a bust tbh

I tend to agree with this analysis

EDM Oilers

Best goal of the weekend is from College Hockey. Northeastern kid doing work.

Or it might be this one from the QMJHL(I think, not sure. Could be a Men’s league)

Back to the NHL.

Bruins Habs suck leafs

If I’m being 100% honest, the goal of the week was Ovi’s

All the saves

Hank doing King things

One for Big Daddy Trent. Iowa Wild goalie

Soooo Philly. Poor Jordie

Luongo now 10th all-time in wins. Passed Chris Osgood.

Ryan Miller is now the all-time leader in shootout wins with 53

My personal favorite moment of the week…Roussel gets popped/takes a dive.

Chief Power Rankings Week 1:

*Note: Sometimes the rankings will be based on who I think are real Cup contenders, sometimes it’s who has the best record, sometimes it’s who is playing the best. It’s basically my gut. Try to keep up. Leave your top 5 in the comments.

1) Rangers–3 wins and played high quality opponents. Great defense, goalie, and they have speed for days

2) Chicago–Played 8 really good periods against quality teams. One bad period resulted in a loss to the team above

3) Montreal–One of two teams with 3 wins. Taking care of lesser opponents

4) Detroit– I just flat out believe in Detroit..again. Deal with it.

5) Nashville/Winnipeg/Minnesota

Final Thoughts:

I think the LA Kings are dead for now. That team needs a bit of a makeover and Lucic acting like a goon after Couture laid a clean hit on him isn’t going to do it.

The spine of their team is really strong with Kopitar, Doughty, and Quick, but I think they need to move out some pieces because it feels like their team has gotten stale. Too much controversy last year and too many bad apples. They need to strip down the team aside from the guys I mentioned. Maybe dump Sutter as well.

That’s it for this week.

PS: There’s been a slight delay with the podcast. Editing should be done this afternoon and it will be published tomorrow. The delay is largely due to the fact that I don’t know how to edit for shit and needed to get someone to do it for me. Podcast is going to be a work in progress.
