Derrick Rose Says It's Not His Job To Recruit Carmelo Anthony

RICHMOND, Calif. – The Chicago Bulls are expected to pursue Carmelo Anthony in free agency. They just shouldn’t expect Derrick Rose to participate in the recruiting.Rose told Yahoo Sports on Sunday that he doesn’t plan to recruit Anthony – or any free agent, for that matter – even though he likes Anthony’s game and thinks they can play alongside each other.

Rose’s reason is simple: He said it’s “not my job.””My thing is if they want to come, they can come,” Rose said. Anthony averaged 27.4 points for the New York Knicks last season. Rose averaged 21.8 points and 7.9 assists during the 2011-12 season – the last before he injured his left knee in the 2012 playoffs. Rose respects Anthony’s game and believes they can co-exist.

So this is obviously a hot topic right now. D-Rose stating yet again that he has no interest in recruiting free agents, a statement that runs contradictory to his camp constantly complaining about the Bulls not putting enough talent around him. People are killing him for this, and you know what, I actually agree with the criticism. I’m probably one of the biggest Derrick Rose apologists out there but this was just stupid. It’s not as if he said anything shocking or said I don’t need Carmelo or anything like that. And if we’re being perfectly honest it isn’t D-Rose’s job to recruit players because this isn’t his team anymore, it’s Joakim Noah’s. But still, why even say this?  It does zero good for the Bulls Free Agent plans and future. Zero. There is nothing to gain from stating what he stated. Just don’t say anything, don’t answer the question, or lie, say you’d love to meet with any potential free agent. Basically say anything besides what you said because you know it’s going to cause a shitstorm and bring unwanted attention to you. Derrick Rose and his inner circle continually make some of the dumbest PR decisions I have ever seen in my life. You haven’t played for 2 years, you’re a big question mark when it comes to the rest of your career and you still can’t figure out how to give a canned answer that won’t cause everyone to get angry? It’s not hard. Athletes spew bullshit to the media every day. “I’ll do whatever the team asks” “Were in this together” blah blah blah. I just don’t understand what is to gain from saying something like this. It makes zero sense. And I’ll still defend D-Rose, I’ll still root just as hard for him when he does come, and maybe that makes me a moron but that’s just the way I am. But I will say this he does not make it easy for the Bulls and the fanbase sometimes. Just completely pointless.
