Chicago Steel Of The USHL Draft Jack Jablonski, Kid Who Was Paralyzed Playing Hockey Back In 2011

Bensenville, IL (May 7th, 2013) — With their final pick in the 2013-2014 USHL draft, The Chicago Steel are extremely proud to announce that they have drafted forward Jack Jablonski from Minneapolis, Minnesota.

On December 30th, 2011 Jack was a sophomore at Benilde-St. Margaret’s High School in St. Louis Park, MN when he got hit during a high school hockey game on and sustained an injury to his spinal cord (High Tetraplegia to the C4 vertebrae).  Although Jack has been told he will not be able to walk nor skate again, he has pushed through many trying times as he strives for success in his lengthy rehabilitation.

Jack was the winner of the 2012 Courage in Sports Award and has been considered an inspiration for his work ethic and passion.

Very cool gesture by a hometown team. Not sure everyone is familiar with the Jack Jablonski story, it’s been a huge deal in Minnesota for the past year and a half and was featured in SI, but this is awesome. A kid playing the sport he loves and have it all taken away in the blink of an eye. Very nice for the Chicago Steel to recognize him and make sure he fulfilled one of his dreams to get drafted. I can never get enough of these type of stories. Too much negativity in the world to not read something like this and feel good about it. Just look at his tweet from last night.
