Brian Urlacher Says Lovie Would Never Have Let Sunday Happen, Critical Of Cutler Yet Again

(Source) Retired Chicago Bears Pro Bowl linebacker Brian Urlacher was highly critical of Bears quarterback Jay Cutler on Wednesday, acknowledging his former teammate’s talent but saying he doesn’t do enough to win games. “We say it every year how talented Jay is … how much talent,” Urlacher said during an interview on the “Kap and Haugh Show” on WGWG-FM (87.7). “But the NFL is not a talent contest. It’s a winning contest. You want to win football games, that’s what it comes down to. “If your quarterback can’t make plays in certain situations for you to win games, he’s not getting the job done.”

Asked whether Cutler should be considered an elite quarterback, Urlacher said, “Financially, he is one of the elite guys in the NFL. You look at his contract, he was paid like an elite quarterback, if I am not mistaken. He just hasn’t produced like an elite quarterback. “You look at the guys … the Bradys, the Mannings, the Rodgerses, the Breeses … those guys win every year. Even with no one around them. (Aaron) Rodgers has no offensive line, he wins. (Tom) Brady has no receivers, he wins. You look at Jay, he’s got Brandon (Marshall), Alshon (Jeffery), Matt (Forte) and a great offensive line … Martellus Bennett … and they can’t seem to put it together for some reason. “I’m not sure if it’s his fault, but for some reason they can’t seem to figure it out.”

My favorite time of the month, someone puts a microphone in front of Urlacher and he bashes the fuck out of the Bears in a weird spiteful rant. I’ll actually admit, this time some of the things he said are spot on. I hate that Urlacher is saying it, because when he does it feels like he’s holding a grudge against the team but I’ll be the first to agree, he’s not totally wrong. The Bears have been bad. Everyone deserves blame from the coach to the quarterback to the line to the receivers. Cutler will be the first to tell you he has to play better for the Bears to succeed. Everyone needs to play better. Expectations and reality are far apart right now. That’s just a fact and Urlacher is right, my problem is I just don’t need to hear it from him. He said he was retiring from media last month and now he’s back stirring the pot again. Maybe I’m in the minority but when the whole world is coming down on the Chicago Bears it would be nice to have Urlacher not pile on and say how bad Cutler and Trestman are. That’s just me though.

I will say that this point seems fair.

I’m not going to pretend to know what goes on in an NFL locker room, any non player who does is just blowing smoke up your ass. But I will say this, I heard Trestman talk Monday about how he wants a team full of leaders. From afar that just seems so incredibly silly. If everyone is a leader then you have no leaders. That’s how leadership works. Can’t all be Chiefs, need some Indians too.

PS

Just to clarify the Urlacher thing, I don’t know why but it always feels like he just can’t let go of the fact that Emery didn’t offer him more money 2 years ago and the team started going in an offensive direction. It seems like in Urlacher’s head if he talks badly enough about the Bears culture and the new look that the McCaskey’s will fire everyone and offer him a new long term deal at Linebacker. Like he can just turn back time and it will be 2006 all over again. Very odd.
