Welcome To The 21st Century MBTA: T Will Stay Open Until 3 AM Starting In March Or April

BOSTON (AP)Late night service is returning to the MBTA. The governor announced Monday that the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority will run all subway trains and the 15 most popular bus routes until 3 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday. The one-year pilot program will begin in March or April. If it is successful, it will be extended.

What a genius move! The state that doesn’t have Happy Hour because of a drunk driving accident 30 years ago finally realized that it’s smart to offer people transportation home from bars! Better late than never, I guess. Of course, you’ll never find me anywhere near a T station at 2 AM because when I’m stumbling drunk the last place in the world I want to be is an underground room that has locomotives running through it. I still agree with the move, it’s smart to offer drunk people a way to get home that doesn’t risk a DUI. But I’d still rather spend my time fighting for one of the 6 cabs in Boston rather than sitting around with my thumb up my ass waiting an hour for an inevitably late train that will take another hour to get me home.
