Tonight Is The Longest Night In the History of the World

solstice

MSN – Today, you might already know, is the winter solstice. That means for people living in the Northern Hemisphere, it’s the longest night of the year. However, as science blogger Colin Schultz points out, tonight will also be the longest night ever. At any location in the Northern Hemisphere, in other words, tonight’s period of darkness will be slightly longer than any other, ever — at least, since the planet started spinning right around the time it was first formed some 4.5 billion years ago.

I don’t know why but I’m pretty happy to be a part of this. I mean anytime you can be part of a world record that has existed for 4.5 billion years that’s pretty special. Part of the longest night in the history of the world? Yup. Putting that shit on my resume.

UPDATE – I was just told the winter solstice people fucked up? The longest night of the year was actually in 1912? Well that fucking sucks. I wish I never knew tonight was supposed to be the longest night of all time in the first place. I would have never known what I just lost. I’m just fucking empty now. How can we come back and take the title? I need to be part of something that is a world record for eternity. This sucks.
