The Celtics Schedule Is Out And My Pants Tent Is Through The Roof

4532853252_22d27e8642_zWhat a time to be alive. Day’s like this are celebrated throughout professional sports. The day the schedule comes out immediately you as a fan make outrageous claims. There is so much hope, the season is still filled with promise, it’s a glorious thing. In this case, a look at this schedule can only mean one thing. Celts are probably going to win close to 50 games, and as of August 13th I’ll say 48 (subject to change). Shake your heads all you want, clearly you haven’t been paying attention. There is a lot to love about this schedule, here’s a few things to keep an eye on.

I’ve read a lot of stories about the schedule, and most people circle Rondo’s return, Doc/Paul’s return as big dates, and they are, but to me the first big story of the season is basically our first 8 games. Take a look at each of those teams, and tell me that doesn’t excite you. Pretty much everyone we play is someone we need to pass, and a Sunday afternoon matchup with the Spurs is a great measuring stick (knowing full well they are in entirely different universes).

While early in the season, hopefully being at and playing against full strength we’ll have a chance to see how to stack up with the rest of our competition. Remember, the Celtics finished the second half of the year on a 20-11 run, or in other words one of the better teams in the East since the Break.

We get our first and only home look at the champs on Dec 11th, and if he is healthy you can almost pencil David Lee in for like a 18 and 12 line right now. Always fun to see Curry in person, and who knows by then maybe it’s a matchup of conference leaders.

Thank God we have Christmas off. The Celtics have an all-time record of 12-17 on this day, with their last game being played in 2012. Basically the last time we were relevant but whatever, happy for the rest. I always hated these Christmas games. The Celtics play at a weird time and have to wear terrible alternate  jerseys and it rarely ends well. No thanks.

Another break comes at the end of March, where we may have what looks like our toughest road trip. HOWEVAH, just one back to back. Unfortunately, the Celtics get screwed with 9 games on the road on the second night of a back to back, while only 6 at home. If you remember, this was actually a bright spot for the Celtics, but more of an aberration, so expect some regression here.

And finally, what could prove to be most important to the Celts is how they finish. 4 of their last 5 at home, with their last four all against teams they could end up needing a head to head win against. Take a good look, this schedule has 3 seed written all over it!

LET’S GO CELTICS.

P.S If we still somehow get Boogie, it’s a wrap
