INWOOD A city teacher got the ax for having her eighth-grade students write on a blackboard all the reasons why they disliked a classmate Madeline Luciano was fired from P.S. 18 in Inwood after city investigators say she devised a bizarre class assignment in which students wrote that their 13-year-old female classmate was ugly, annoying and a phony. Luciano only told the students to stop when the girl started crying, according to a report by the city Department of Education’s Office of Special investigations. One student told investigators that the complaints about the girl included her “attitude and how fake she is around people.” The student who wrote the responses on the chalkboard recalled someone saying she was an “ugly person” and “that she annoys people,” according to the report.

Hey look, school is all about improvement. You go there to get smarter, get better at playing with others, work on your listening skills and following orders. The whole thing is all about bettering yourself. Well arithmetic and grammar aren’t the only things some people need to work on. Some people need to work on being ugly, annoying phonies. And that’s a hard lesson to teach yourself. Self-evaluation is an extraordinarily difficult task so sometimes it helps to have others let you know. Kind of like a roast. People learn different ways, ya know? Some kids can just read it in a book by themselves and boom they know it, others can be told and they know it, some others need to have a more elaborate learning experience where they’re tortured by classmates about all their flaws and have them screamed in their face. Gotta cover all your bases, no child left behind. You say horrible monster, others may say teacher of the year.
