(Source)Delaware has become the first U.S. state to legally allow people to inherit their dead relatives’ online accounts, including Facebook and iTunes. Under the new law digital property will be treated in exactly the same way as physical property after somebody passes away, meaning it can be passed on to others in a will. At the moment the terms and conditions of websites such as Facebook, Google, Apple and Amazon mean that control of an account cannot always be passed on to someone else.

FUCKKKKKKK THATTTTTTTTTTTTT. There has never been a law in history that I was more vehemently against that this one. There’s some shit your family doesn’t need to know about, a side of you that they don’t need to see. That side is your Facebook messages, your DM sliding and your GChats. You want my iTunes account? Go bananas, dad. Hope you like Taylor Swift. But aside from that, stay in your lane. You won’t like what you find. I don’t even like them. It’s why with the end of every weekend comes an anxiety attack wondering what I sent to who. But the difference between me and my family is that I have a very short term memory. I’ll worry about them until Tuesday but by the time Thursday rolls around I’m ready to start throwing lines out there again. Your family won’t share that sentiment. What would be a nice memorial dinner, filled with conversation about what a sweet boy you were will instead become a conversation between Nana and Mom that sounds something like, “Boy, John really loved sending dick pics to porn stars didn’t he?” No one wants to be remembered that way.
