Shake Shack Opens In Chestnut Hill Today

Boston.com – Here’s a treat for the first day of spring: New York City’s Shake Shack is finally opening shop and bringing its famous frozen custard and popular burgers to The Street Chestnut Hill today.Fans of Shake Shack have been eagerly awaiting the opening of the 3,000 square foot eatery on Boylston Street in Chestnut Hill since plans were announced last May. The burger joint, which calls itself a “modern day roadside burger stand,” is not only famous for its milkshakes, burgers, and custard, but also for its long lines at its several New York City locations. Why is this spot so popular, you wonder? It may be the Shack sauce, a mayo-based specialty, or (my personal favorite) custard flavors that change daily.

So Boston’s first Shake Shack opened today. I’ve had Shake Shack once at Saratoga. I had no clue what it was when I ate it, but it was really good. I’m generally not a sauce guy on my burger, but the secret sauce is legit as hell. But to be honest I still don’t get why people freak out when new burger places like these open. They are all kind of the same at this point now right? Uburger, 5 Guys, Shakeshack, etc. I mean I like them all, but it’s kind of like choosing between coke and pepsi at this point. I’ll take whatever you give me and be happy about it. None of them pass the drive test. IE – Would I drive to Chestnut Hill to get a Shake Shack burger? Fuck no. If I’m near it I’ll eat it, but only crazy people wait in line or go out of there way for it. There are just too many places serving up similar burgers nowadays. Basically high end fast food burgers. The only place that still passes the drive test for me is RF O’Sullivan’s. The Boston burger list starts and ends there. All these cutsie places are nice, but if you want a burger’s burger that’s where you go.    Although I must say the fries are horrible at RF O’Sullivan’s which is one of the most mind boggling things in this universe.

(I’ll throw my dad a bone and mention Mr. Bartley’s as well because he freaks out whenever I say RF O’Sullivan is better than Mr. Bartleys)
