Rajon Rondo's Suspension Was Because He Called A Referee A "Faggot" And That Referee Just Came Out As Gay
(Yahoo) — Bill Kennedy, one of the NBA’s top referees, has revealed he is gay. “I am proud to be an NBA referee and I am proud to be a gay man,” Kennedy told Yahoo Sports on Sunday night. “I am following in the footsteps of others who have self-identified in the hopes that will send a message to young men and women in sports that you must allow no one to make you feel ashamed of who you are.” Kennedy’s announcement comes in the wake of the NBA’s suspension of Sacramento Kings guard Rajon Rondo, who game officials, including Kennedy, heard unleash a disturbing torrent of anti-gay slurs following his ejection from a game on Dec. 3 in Mexico City. In the game officials’ report used as part of the NBA’s investigation – which includes details provided to Yahoo Sports from National Basketball Referee’s Association general counsel Lee Seham – Kennedy and fellow referee Ben Taylor described Rondo’s post-ejection diatribe as including the statements: “You’re a mother——- faggot. … You’re a f—— faggot, Billy.”
This look’s pretty bad for Rondo, but the most important question here is did he know? Because if he did, then Rondo’s a scumbag bigot. If he didn’t know? Then it’s just a little slip-up. You don’t call retarded people retards, you call your friends retards when they’re acting retarded. You don’t call gay referees faggots, you call straight referees faggots when they’re acting faggy. Maybe a day of counseling and let Rondo kiss Bill Kennedy to prove he’s not homophobic then call it even. Wouldn’t put it past Bill Kennedy to be making the whole thing up, like when someone says “my mom is dead” after a Your mom joke. Classic gay diversion here to make Rondo look way worse. Kennedy and Angela could be having a gay affair and just wanted to get Rondo in trouble, anyone think of that?

But seriously, according to Tim Donaghy Doc Rivers knew Kennedy was gay, which means Rondo knew, which means Rondo is a humongous asshole. Incredibly fucked up and hurtful to be screaming that in the face of a guy you know is in the closet, especially on TV and in front of thousands of people. Rondo knew this would get to him and essentially threw Bill Kennedy out of the closet, I don’t know what kind of brain you have to do something like that but I sure as fuck don’t have it.
