Kevin Sutherland Joins The Exclusive 59 Club And Just Misses Being The First-Ever Player To Shoot 58

Is it possible to be disappointed after someone shoots a 59?  Because I am.  I’m super disappointed actually.  All Kevin Sutherland had to do was par 18 and he would’ve been the first player ever to shoot a 58 at a PGA Tour sanctioned event.  For a little bit there we even had the possibility of maybe seeing a 57 which would’ve been unreal.  Instead we got the first-ever 59 on the Champions Tour and maybe the first-ever disappointing 59.  Can you say choke job?  He mad an absolute MESS of 18.  Drove it way off to the right, laid it up in front of the green, chipped it way past the hole, missed a not-impossible 8 footer and then put it in for a bogey.  I was so ready to celebrate the 58 that I’m pissed at the 59.  Still a brilliant round of golf from Sutherland though so congrats.  But still, we were THIS close to seeing a 58.

PS- I shouldn’t critique him too much because I’ll never ever ever come close to shooting anything close to that, but come on.  It was right there.
