CBS Sports- The 2014 season is off to a rough start for Iowa State. It began with a loss to North Dakota State in the season opener, and as if that wasn’t bad enough, the team’s best receiver, Quenton Bundrage, was lost for the season due to a torn ACL. And now the team’s starting right tackle, Jacob Gannon, has quit the team. There had been rumors about Gannon’s status for a few days, but the school confirmed the news on Thursday. While the school did not give a reason for Gannon’s sudden departure, Gannon told Zack Spears that he was “burnt out.” Gannon dealt with injuries in 2013, but started eight of the nine games he appeared in and started against North Dakota State last week. Redshirt freshman Jake Campos will likely take Gannon’s spot on the offensive line against Kansas State this week.

Ladies and gentlemen, your 2014 Iowa State Cyclones!  The hits keep coming for the Cyclones.  A starting offensive lineman basically saying, “Fuck this shit” and quitting the team.  Love it.  I mean can you blame Gannon here?  Not really.  I’d want to quit too if my team got it’s ass kicked by North Dakota State in Week 1.  That’s just a sign of things to come.  After losing their #1 wide receiver Quenton Bundrage to an ACL injury there’s a better than good chance the Cyclones don’t get a win this year.  Hard to fault Jacob Gannon for seeing the writing on the wall and high tailing it out of town before the entire nation is making fun of how bad this Iowa State team is.  Love his answer when asked why he quit the team.  Burnt out.  Perfect way to put it.  Burnt out from playing under Paul Rhoads, burnt out from playing in the piss poor excuse of a college town they call Ames, burnt out by their terrible fan base.  He was burnt out from all of it.  I consider Gannon one of the smarter dudes in the world right now.  The other Iowa State players who decide to willingly stay and get their asses kicked by opposing teams every week are insane.  I’d recommend getting out while you still can.

PS-When it comes out later that Gannon is dealing with some nasty family issue or something personally then that’s my bad.  But as it stand right now, it’s the perfect vehicle to show how much it fucking sucks to be a Cyclone fan right now.
