I Hate How Seattle Makes A Sport Out Of Cheering For Sports

Seattle, where you’re only a fan if you dress like an asshole

I get that Seattle is loud in its own right, they’ve been heralded as a great crowd for a while (of course, they’ve also been accused of piping in noise) but last night annoyed the fuck out of me. Every time they showed the crowd with the decibel meter it made my blood boil. To the point where I’ve decided that I hate everyone who was in that stadium last night. Because they were just cheering for themselves. Cheering for their own record. If you need to potentially be breaking a World Record in order to cheer then you’re not really a fan, and I feel like Seattle does this bullshit all the time. It’s the fans making it about themselves.

I remember when the Fleet Center first opened up and my dad and I would go to Bruins games and they’d have their fake crowd meter on the jumbotron, and the loudest scale reachable was “Garden Level.” And my dad would look at me in disgust and say, “They didn’t need shit like this at the Garden. Everyone knew when to get loud.” It’s the same thing in Seattle. If you need an MC to be telling you to get loud because the World Record decibel meters are out then you’re just there to be obnoxiously loud for yourself, not cheer on your team. It’s insulting to the crowd noise game.

PS – Although I will admit, I could watch this Pete Carroll GIF for the rest of the day.
