Gronk Says Patriots Fans Would Stop Goodell Before He Ever Even Made it to Gillette

.

So Rob Gronkowski was asked by ESPN if Roger Goodell would ever be welcome in Foxboro again. And just in case you thought Gronkowski might be missing his edge after after and injury-plagued season, or humbled by his team’s success without him, or in any way lost his touch with the fans in his time away, guess again. His answer was pure Gronk:

“To tell you the truth, I really don’t think so. The fans are nuts, they’re wild, and they have the Patriots’ back no matter what. They have Tom’s back. I’m telling you, he wouldn’t get through the highway if our fans saw him. So I don’t think he can even land in the airport in Boston, because Patriots fans are the best fans. They’re the most loyal fans.

“I’m telling you, they might just carry out Roger themselves. He couldn’t even get to the stadium in Foxboro if he landed in Boston.”

This is what I love about Gronk more than all other things. He’s unfiltered. He’s too … I’ll use the word guileless, though I don’t mean it in a condescending way … to bullshit. He’s a man of the people, plugged into the Vox Populi and just as motivated to have Brady’s back as the guy on the sidewalk tossing beers to him on the Duckboat, the kids he signs autographs for or the coeds he bangs.

And the best part is here is yet another guy making his living off NFL paychecks who is no longer afraid of the commissioner. Hell, Gronk is even calling him “Roger” now, which has to go right up his ginger ass sideways. Like Joe Thomas a couple of weeks ago and Mr. Kraft the other night, guys are getting away with saying things that even last year would have put them in a shallow grave. People are losing their fear. They’re  emboldened to speak out against the tyrant they used to dread. It’s like 1989 when East Berliners realized they could go right up to the Brandenberg Gate without getting shot and within hours were ripping the Wall down. And before the Commie bastards knew what hit them, their regime was on the ash heap of history and Hasselhoff was pissing on the pile in the single most 80s moment ever:

Don’t get me wrong, I still want the one they call the Roger to come. Gronk is right, we will keep him from getting on the highway. We will keep his plane from landing. But we deserve that moment. Because freedom.
